Call for Invited Paper Session Proposals for the 2021 WSC

The call for Invited Paper Session (IPS) proposals for the 2021 WSC has already been published. Proposals should be submitted using the form available on the WSC website: https://www.isi2021.org/invited-sessions.html

Invited Paper Sessions constitute great opportunities to place survey statistics subjects in the spotlight of the conference and IASS counts on your ideas and inputs to make it happen. When submitting a proposal, you should indicate that your proposed IPS is related to the IASS in the field (association aligned with your proposal).  If you submit a proposal, please inform Monica Pratesi (monica.pratesi@unipi.it ), IASS representative in the Scientific Programme Committee (SPC) for the 63rd WSC, and James Chipperfield (james.chipperfield@abs.gov.au) .

Webinar to Celebrate World Statistics Day 2020

A big thank you to Eric Rancourt and Walter Radermacher for their presentations on the 4th November webinar, jointly organised by IASS and IAOS, about the importance of official statistics to society. The presentations were forward-focused and based within frameworks that I found insightful. There was plenty of time for Q & A with the audience. A recording of the webinar will appear on the ISI and IASS websites soon.

Webinar 3 Survey and Big data interactions (during the COVID emergency)
A big thank you Piet Daas and Marco Puts for their presentations on identifying innovative companies from text on their websites and estimating the development of Covid based on symptom mentions in social media. There was plenty of time for Q & A with the audience. A recording of the webinar will appear on the IASS website soon.

Nominations Sought for the 2022 Waksberg Award

The journal Survey Methodology has established an annual invited paper series in honor of the late Joseph Waksberg to recognize his outstanding contributions to survey statistics and methodology. Each year a prominent survey statistician is chosen to write a paper that reviews the development and current state of an important topic in the field of survey statistics and methodology. The paper reflects the mixture of theory and practice that characterized Joseph Waksberg’s work.

The recipient of the Waksberg Award will receive an honorarium and give the 2022 Waksberg Invited Address at the Statistics Canada Symposium, expected to be held in the autumn of 2022. The paper will be published in an upcoming issue of Survey Methodology (Targeted for December 2022).

The author of the 2022 Waksberg paper will be selected by a four-person committee appointed by Survey Methodology and the American Statistical Association. Nomination of individuals to be considered as authors or suggestions for topics should be sent before February 28, 2021 to the chair of the committee, Jean Opsomer, email: JeanOpsomer@westat.com.
